Greg Backs Animal Testing Ban Pledge
Greg has welcomed Government reassurances this month that the ban on animal testing of cosmetic products will remain in place in the UK.
The testing on animals of cosmetics and makeup has been banned in Britain since 1998 but recently there was doubt that the ban would continue following the European Chemicals Agency (ECA) ruling that companies could test ingredients used in cosmetics on animals in certain circumstances.
Following the ECA change, Sir Greg and other MPs called for the Government to override the proposals and keep the ban on such experiments in Britain.
A spokesman for the Prime Minister has now given reassurance saying: “The ban on testing on animals for consumers will remain and there are no plans to change it.
“There will be no weakening of our laws on animal testing.”
Sir Greg said: “I welcome this reassurance that animal testing for cosmetics in the UK will not be recommenced’.
